Paljaya and PT KAI Agree to Explore Wastewater Management Cooperation
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Perumda Paljaya and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) have agreed to explore cooperation in providing wastewater management services at stations, assets, and infrastructure owned and managed by PT KAI. This cooperation will be carried out through the signing of a memorandum of understanding, which is the initial step in creating synergy between Paljaya and PT KAI to realise more integrated, professional, and sustainable wastewater management in the railway environment. “This cooperation also reaffirms the commitment of Paljaya and PT KAI in maintaining environmental quality and public health in station areas and other operational assets,” said the Director General of Perumda Paljaya, Untung Suryadi, in Jakarta on Tuesday. The scope of the memorandum of understanding includes the development and management of a centralised domestic wastewater management system (SPALD-T), the management of wastewater treatment plants (IPAL), and the scheduled collection and treatment of sludge or sludge resulting from IPAL processing. Furthermore, it includes the provision of IPAL facilities and infrastructure, the management of hazardous and toxic waste (B3), and the evaluation of existing domestic wastewater management and B3 waste management systems. Subsequently, both parties agreed to continue technical discussions and further studies as a basis for preparing a more detailed cooperation agreement in the next phase. Throughout 2025, Paljaya has implemented various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes in the field of sanitation, including CSR collaboration with PT Sucofindo in Pancoran, CSR collaboration with PT PLN in Semper Barat, and most recently, with PAM Jaya, implementing the revitalisation of public toilets in the Manggarai sub-district. “Palejaya also invites PT KAI to participate in CSR programmes in the field of sanitation as a form of real contribution to the environment and public health,” said Untung. The collaboration between Paljaya and PT KAI is expected to become a model for integrated wastewater management in the transportation sector, while also strengthening the role of both institutions in supporting sustainable development and environmental protection.
