Palestinian Goalkeeper Killed by Israeli Forces in Gaza

Palestinian goalkeeper Saleem Al-Ashqar was killed earlier this week in the Gaza Strip. Al-Ashqar died from gunfire by Israeli occupation forces, according to a statement from the Palestinian Football Association (PFA).

Al-Ashqar is among hundreds of Palestinian sports figures killed, including more than 1,000 Palestinian athletes, since the genocide began in October 2023, as reported by Aljazeera.

Al-Ashqar married five months ago, and his wife is expecting their first child.

An outpouring of grief from family, teammates, and the Palestinian and global sports community has continued since his death.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of 32-year-old Palestinian goalkeeper Salim Al-Ashqar. He was killed by the Israeli army. We are deeply saddened by the continuation of such events. We call for justice and peace,” said Chilean football club Deportivo Palestino on Wednesday.
