Palestinian Foreign Minister: The World Must Provide Tangible Support for Two-State Solution
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shahin stated that the current challenge for the international community is no longer whether a consensus exists for a two-state solution, but rather the will to implement and support that solution in a tangible manner.
“The issue today is no longer whether there is international consensus regarding a two-state solution. That consensus already exists,” said Varsen Aghabekian Shahin during the Global Town Hall 2026 discussion, organised online by the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) on Saturday.
In the meeting, which addressed development, humanity, and justice, the Foreign Minister noted that the Palestinian issue has become a test of the international system’s credibility in ensuring that international law applies universally and that justice is applied equally.
According to her, the primary priorities at this time are to end the genocide in the Gaza Strip, protect civilians, and ensure that humanitarian aid can enter Gaza immediately, sustainably, without hindrance, and in accordance with the actual needs.
Furthermore, she highlighted the policies of dispossession, forced displacement, settlement expansion, and increasing annexation in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which are considered to threaten the territorial foundation for the realisation of a Palestinian state.
“Settler terrorism by Israelis has become a daily reality. The Palestinian people are being driven from their lands, movement is increasingly restricted, land is becoming more fragmented, and annexation continues through legislation, policy, and the creation of facts on the ground,” she said.
The Foreign Minister argued that these are not isolated measures. “All of these are part of interconnected policies aimed at maintaining permanent Israeli control and preventing the realisation of a sovereign Palestinian state,” she added.
She noted that the Global Alliance for the Implementation of a Two-State Solution and the New York Declaration have built political momentum to translate international commitments into concrete, time-bound, and irreversible steps.
She emphasised that the manifestation of Palestinian sovereignty and independence depends on ending the occupation and halting policies that undermine the territorial, political, and economic foundations of the two-state solution.
“The Palestinian people have an inalienable right to self-determination, and the State of Palestine is a political, legal, and national reality. What is being stripped away is our ability to exercise full sovereignty over our territory due to the illegal Israeli occupation,” she concluded.
