Palestinian Foreign Minister: Gaza Reconstruction Plan Hindered by US-Iran Tensions
Antalya (ANTARA) - Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian stated that the implementation of the peace plan in the Gaza Strip is hindered by tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel.
“The implementation of that plan is halted at the first stage because the conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran is diverting attention from the reconstruction process in Palestine,” Aghabekian told RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum on Saturday.
She said that Palestine continues to worry about the possibility of Israel launching a new military attack.
“Tel Aviv does not want peace; they want Palestinian territory to always be overshadowed by conflict and they openly express their intention to continue colonising the Gaza Strip and the West Bank,” said the Palestinian Foreign Minister.
In mid-November 2025, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) approved a US-proposed resolution to support a comprehensive plan drawn up by President Donald Trump to end the conflict in Gaza.
The resolution was approved by 13 out of 15 UNSC members, with Russia and China abstaining.
The comprehensive plan provides for a temporary international administration in the Gaza Strip and the establishment of a “peace council” chaired by Trump.
The plan also includes a mandate for international stabilisation forces to be deployed in the Gaza Strip through coordination with Israel and Egypt.
