Palestinian Detainees Reportedly Suffer Beatings, Lack of Medical Care
Ramallah (ANTARA) - The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) stated that the number of sick detainees in Ofer Prison in the occupied West Bank has increased significantly due to harsh detention conditions and limited healthcare services.
In a special briefing on visits to the prison in January and February 2026, the statement of which was released on Wednesday (25/2), the PPS explained that the detainees experienced repeated beatings and did not receive medical treatment, causing their health conditions to worsen.
The PPS mentioned that a detainee with the initials MY reported having suffered a spinal fracture before being arrested and was beaten during his arrest, causing a broken nose.
To date, he has not received treatment and is reported to have lost about 26 kilograms in weight due to hunger and difficulty sleeping due to pain.
Another detainee, BJ, is reported to suffer from blood clots in the arteries of the liver, small intestine, and stomach, as well as diabetes and platelet disorders. He needs immediate medical treatment.
The PPS stated that he also experienced beatings during detention, causing him to lose a dental implant without receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, detainee DN, who was injured during his arrest in 2024, was shot in the right hand, abdomen, and pelvis. He now has difficulty walking, severe pain, and bowel problems after losing bladder function. According to the PPS, doctors have stated that treatment is not yet available for his current condition.
Detainee AA is reported to have lost hearing in his left ear due to beatings in prison.
The PPS emphasized that these cases are not isolated incidents and that detainees face serious health situations due to the ongoing policy of medical neglect in Ofer Prison and other Israeli prisons.
