Gaza (ANTARA) - Israel is obstructing the work of the Palestinian national committee established to manage the Gaza Strip in accordance with United States President Donald Trump's plan, Palestinian Deputy Foreign Minister Omar Awadallah told RIA Novosti on Monday (16/2).

"Israel is prohibiting members of the national committee for managing Gaza from entering the Gaza Strip," he said.

The diplomat stated that "the existence of a committee formed to ensure stability, restore Palestinian governmental functions, and halt all crimes against the Palestinian people does not align with the interests of the current Israeli authorities."

US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, announced in mid-January the launch of the second phase of the Gaza peace plan, which stipulates the withdrawal of Israeli forces from a significant portion of Gaza's territory, the deployment of an International Stabilisation Force, and the establishment of new governance structures, including a Board of Peace.

Despite the announcement of the transition to the second phase of Trump's plan, clashes between Palestinians and Israelis in the territory continue to be reported.

The issues of budget approval and the timeline for commencing the committee's activities will be on the agenda of the first meeting of the Board of Peace (BoP), scheduled to take place in Washington on 19 February.

The US government has sent invitations to approximately 50 world leaders to participate in the meeting, including Russian President Vladimir Putin.
