Palestine Calls for International Action to End Israeli Siege of West Bank

Ramallah/Istanbul (ANTARA) - Palestine is urging concrete international action to end violence following increased attacks by Israeli soldiers and illegal settlers in Al-Mughayir, West Bank, intended to isolate the region and force its population to flee.

In a statement on Saturday (29/8), the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Israel has imposed a “suffocating siege” on the town northeast of Ramallah over the last 20 days.

Israel has closed the town’s entrances and only allows residents to exit or move for two hours each day, according to the ministry.

Israel’s measures also include a ban on ambulances entering the town amidst “indiscriminate targeting” of Palestinian citizens.

“These Israeli actions are an attempt to isolate and besiege the town militarily and economically, as well as to displace its inhabitants,” the ministry said.

Palestine is calling on the international community and all nations not to stop at verbal condemnation, but to take preventive political, legal, and economic steps, as well as to provide international protection for the Palestinian people.

The ministry also called for the activation of international jurisdiction to prosecute perpetrators, the blocking of illegal settlement products from international markets, and holding accountable those providing weapons, funding, or support to settlers.

The occupied West Bank has experienced an increase in Israeli military attacks and settler violence against Palestinians since the war in Gaza broke out in October 2023.

On Friday (28/8), three Palestinians were injured in a settler attack in Al-Mughayyir. Israeli forces and settlers also detained an ambulance attempting to transport the wounded.
