Palembang (ANTARA) – Flight operations at Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin (SMB) II International Airport in Palembang, South Sumatra, returned to normal and ran to schedule on Monday after visibility improved to more than 1,000 metres.

SMB II Airport General Manager Ahmad Syaugi Shahab said in Palembang on Monday that the improved visibility supported the smooth running of both departures and arrivals.

“All flights are on schedule, and operations are running smoothly,” he said.

The improvement followed disruption to flights at the airport the previous day, when haze blanketed parts of South Sumatra.

Better visibility helped aircraft take off and land, allowing flights to operate according to schedule.

Although operations have returned to normal, he said the airport would continue to monitor weather conditions and visibility regularly to anticipate possible disruption.

As of 11am local time, operations at SMB II Airport were reported to be normal. Passenger activity at the airport was also continuing as flight schedules returned to normal.

Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport in Palembang recorded 18 flights affected by haze on Sunday (11 October), when visibility around the airport fell to about 600 metres.
