Palembang to host National C'ships

PALEMBANG, South Sumatra (JP): Palembang will host the National Swimming Championships, in which contestants will swim 10 kilometers along the Musi River on June 17.

The Indonesian Scuba Diving Association's (POSSI) South Sumatra chapter secretary Rudy Kalalo said that a team of national swimmers, including Catherin Kalalo and Wasi, had inspected the venue on June 3 and June 4.

"They concluded that the venue is feasible for the championships but the organizers must divert speedboats using the river to avoid interruption at the championships," he said, adding that the event route starts from Ampera Bridge I to Ampera Bridge II.

"The organizers also included officials from SAR (Search and Rescue) and Polairud (Air and Water Police) to ensure security and safety for participants."

Some 100 swimmers are expected to join the championships, which will feature two events of individual and team, comprising five athletes. (33)
