Palembang Prosecutor's Office states that Alex Noerdin's criminal case is closed
“Legally, the criminal proceedings against the individual are declared closed,” said M Ali Rizza, Head of Intelligence at the Palembang Prosecutor’s Office, in Palembang on Thursday.
He stated that the defendant in the alleged corruption case related to the construction of the Cinde Market, Alex Noerdin, passed away at Siloam Semanggi Hospital in Jakarta on Wednesday (February 25, 2026) at 13:30 WIB.
He emphasized that with the death of the defendant, the criminal proceedings are automatically terminated.
“Legally, the criminal proceedings against the individual are declared closed,” he affirmed.
He added that the termination of prosecution authority is in accordance with Law No. 1 of 2023 (New Criminal Code), specifically Article 132, which occurs for several reasons, one of which is the death of the defendant.

Meanwhile, Alex Noerdin passed away at the age of 75 in 2026; he was born in 1950.
Alex Noerdin is known as the Governor of South Sumatra for a decade; he became one of the influential figures in the development and promotion of the region at the national and international levels.
