Palembang Hajj Committee: Insurance for Deceased Pilgrims to Be Disbursed After Hajj Operations Conclude
The Hajj Organising Committee (PPIH) for Debarkation Palembang, South Sumatra, has stated that insurance payments for pilgrims who passed away while performing the pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia will be made after the entire series of hajj operational activities is completed. Head of Public Relations for PPIH Debarkation Palembang, Haris Alkawarizmi, said the government has guaranteed insurance protection for deceased pilgrims through cooperation with an insurance provider. He explained that to date, eight pilgrims from the Palembang embarkation point have died while performing the hajj in Saudi Arabia. Of that number, seven were from South Sumatra and one was from Bangka Belitung. Pilgrims who die due to illness or other causes are entitled to receive compensation equal to the Hajj Travel Cost (Bipih) they paid during settlement. For pilgrims departing through Palembang Embarkation, the Bipih value this season is Rp 54,206,922, he stated on Monday (15/6/2026).
