Palembang–Betung Toll Road Ready for Functional Operation from 13 March for 2026 Homecoming Rush
PT Hutama Karya (Persero) together with South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru has confirmed operational readiness of the Palembang–Betung toll road segment, which will commence functional operation from 13 March for the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming rush. A field inspection was conducted on Tuesday, 10 March 2026 to ensure safety and comfort standards for road users before the route officially opens in limited capacity.
Hutama Karya has scheduled the functional operation of the Palembang–Betung segment, particularly the Keramasan to Pulau Rimau section, commencing 13 to 29 March 2026. The route has been prepared to alleviate traffic congestion on Sumatra’s main corridors during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 H period.
South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru welcomed the toll road opening initiative. He stated that the road’s presence would provide a solution for public mobility, which is predicted to increase sharply approaching the festive period.
“The South Sumatra Provincial Government welcomes the readiness of this functional operational status. The presence of this segment is expected to provide tangible benefits to the community, particularly in managing the Eid al-Fitr homecoming rush this year,” Herman said in a statement on Friday, 13 March 2026.
Given its functional status, operation of the Palembang–Betung toll road will be implemented with restrictions. The route will only open daily from 07:00 to 17:00 WIB to ensure road user safety due to incomplete permanent supporting facilities.
In addition to time restrictions, vehicle speed is capped at a maximum of 50 km/h. Access is also limited to small vehicles or Class I vehicles only. The inspection was also attended by South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Sandi Nugroho and Sriwijaya Military Command II Deputy Commander Major General Ujang Darwis to ensure security along the functional route.
In a separate statement, Hutama Karya Acting EVP Corporate Secretary Hamdani stated that the company continues to finalise technical preparations to ensure this year’s homecoming journey is smoother and safer for the public.
The opening of this segment is part of Hutama Karya’s commitment as an infrastructure developer in supporting connectivity in the South Sumatra region. Through this functional opening, significant traffic decongestion is expected on main arterial routes during peak homecoming and return traffic periods.
