Palangka Raya enhances school facilities to support inclusive education

The Palangka Raya City Government, Central Kalimantan, is enhancing educational unit facilities to support the creation of a safe, comfortable, and inclusive learning environment for all students, including children with special needs (ABK).

The Acting Head of the Palangka Raya City Education Office, Jayani, stated in Palangka Raya on Friday that direct monitoring of school conditions is part of an inventory of facility requirements, which will subsequently be proposed in the 2027 Regional Budget (APBD).

“The improvement of school facilities and infrastructure must be able to meet the needs of all students, including children with special needs, so that they can obtain a safe, comfortable, and inclusive learning environment,” he said.

He revealed that one of the priority schools in this inclusive education programme is SDN 4 Palangka.

Jayani explained that SDN 4 Palangka is one of the schools providing inclusive education, making the arrangement of physical facilities a vital part of supporting student access and mobility. The planned physical works being monitored include the construction of fencing, the installation of paving, courtyard development, and the rehabilitation of school facilities and infrastructure.

Jayani noted that infrastructure improvements are not merely aimed at improving the school’s appearance, but also at ensuring that educational facilities can be used optimally by all members of the school community.

In addition to SDN 4 Palangka, the arrangement of educational infrastructure is also directed towards educational units located in strategic areas, particularly along main roads and locations that serve as the face of Palangka Raya City.

“Every proposal will be inventoried based on needs and priority scales, ensuring that the planned budget support truly provides benefits for schools and students,” said Jayani.

Beyond facility needs, the arrangement of the school environment is also focused on educational units in strategic locations, including schools along main roads that represent the identity of Palangka Raya City.

Through the Education Office, the Palangka Raya City Government hopes that these improvements to facilities and infrastructure can strengthen the quality of educational services while creating a more representative, safe, and accessible school environment for all students.
