Palangka Raya (ANTARA) - The Palangka Raya City Government, Central Kalimantan (Kalteng), continues to strengthen disaster mitigation and climate change adaptation efforts through the development of the Climate Village Programme (Proklim) at the sub-district level.

“The programme is considered a strategic step in increasing community preparedness to face disaster risks such as floods, forest and land fires, and the impacts of extreme weather changes,” said Acting Head of the Palangka Raya City Environmental Agency, Untung Sutrisno, in Palangka Raya on Thursday.

He stated that the strengthening of Proklim is carried out through various community-based empowerment activities, ranging from environmental greening, integrated waste management, water source conservation, to the development of family food resilience.

In addition, the city government is also encouraging active involvement of the community and environmental groups in maintaining environmental sustainability.

“We are also providing guidance and assistance to sub-districts to strengthen the institutions and administration of the Climate Village Programme,” he said.

“One of them is implemented through the Sub-District Level Proklim socialisation held in Banturung Sub-District,” said Untung.

Through this socialisation, it is hoped that the community can understand the importance of sustainable environmental management and be encouraged to participate actively in various Proklim activities in their respective areas.

Untung stated that climate change is a global issue that has a real impact on community life, both in terms of environment, society, and economy. The impacts include changes in rainfall patterns, increased air temperatures, and increased potential for disasters such as floods and forest and land fires.

He mentioned that by 2025, Palangka Raya City will have 29 Proklim locations with various categories, from primary, intermediate, to advanced. In addition, the Palangka Raya City Government has twice received awards as Proklim facilitators in 2022 and 2024.
