Palace's Statement on Two Pertamina Ships Unable to Cross the Strait of Hormuz
Two Pertamina tankers, Gamsunoro and Pertamina Pride, are still held in the Arabian Gulf. As of now, both ships have not received permission to cross the Strait of Hormuz.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi claimed that supplies of fuel oil (BBM) and LPG will not be disrupted even though the two tankers cannot yet pass through the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, the government is continuously communicating and negotiating with the relevant authorities.
“We are continuing to communicate. But please do not link it in such a way that the ongoing negotiation process seems to disrupt supply stocks. It’s not like that,” said Prasetyo at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (8/5/2026), quoted from detikFinance.
Hadi stated that the two Pertamina-owned ships that are detained have a capacity of about one to two days’ energy reserves. According to him, the current energy reserves are above 20 days.
“Because the detained ones, in terms of tonnage, are about 1.8 million barrels. So that’s equivalent to perhaps one to two days of our reserves,” said Prasetyo.
The government, he added, is not sitting idle in seeking energy supplies from regions other than the Middle East. “That means the government is not just addressing that issue alone. We must secure supply sources from other places,” he concluded.
