Palace Yet to Receive Nomination for New Jampidsus, IM57 Fears for AGO Independence

Presidential Spokesperson Prasetyo Hadi stated that the Palace has not yet received a proposal from Attorney General ST Burhanuddin for the appointment of a new Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus). Following the resignation of Febrie Adriansyah, the Jampidsus position is currently held by Rudi Margono as acting head.

Prasetyo explained that the appointment of the Jampidsus is made by the President through a presidential decree (keppres) based on a nomination submitted by Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin. He noted that a keppres is required for the appointment of a new Jampidsus official.

‘The mechanism is that the position is appointed and determined by the President through a Keppres based on a nomination from the Attorney General, which we have not yet received,’ Prasetyo told reporters in Jakarta on Monday.

According to the Minister of State Secretary, the Attorney General’s nomination for a new Jampidsus is necessary to replace Febrie definitively. Regarding Febrie’s resignation, Prasetyo said the process does not require a keppres, as it was a personal decision by the official concerned.

‘The resignation does not require a Keppres because it is a personal decision by the individual stepping down from the position. So, no Keppres is needed,’ he said. He added that the keppres mechanism only applies to the appointment of a new official to the Jampidsus post.

Previously, Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin received Febrie Adriansyah’s resignation letter as Jampidsus on Saturday. The Head of the Attorney General’s Office Legal Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, stated that the decision was taken as a commitment to maintaining integrity, objectivity, and neutrality in the law enforcement process.

Anang added that the resignation was also related to an ongoing legal process being handled by the Indonesian National Police. Febrie, along with private entrepreneur Don Ritto, has been named a suspect in an alleged corruption and money laundering case. The Indonesian Prosecutorial Commission (Komjak) has assessed that a definitive Jampidsus is needed immediately following Febrie’s resignation.
