Jakarta – State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi stated that the late sixth Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Try Sutrisno, had set an example for the Indonesian nation on how to love one’s country.

“He has set an example for all the Indonesian people on how to love our nation,” said Prasetyo in Jakarta on Monday.

According to him, during his lifetime, Try Sutrisno frequently emphasised the importance of safeguarding the 1945 Constitution and Pancasila, and encouraged the younger generation to remain united in fulfilling independence amid various challenges.

That message, he said, serves as a reminder for all parties to uphold the principles of nationalism.

Prasetyo stated that the Indonesian nation mourned and felt the loss of one of its finest sons who devoted his entire life to serving the nation and state.

The State Secretary also invited the public to pray that the deceased be accepted for his deeds and that the bereaved family be given strength and patience.

“We ask for prayers from all Indonesian people so that, God willing, he achieves a good ending, all his deeds are accepted, all his sins are forgiven, and the family he left behind are always given strength and patience,” said Prasetyo.

Regarding the funeral procession, he stated that the body would be taken from Masjid Sunda Kelapa to Kalibata Heroes Cemetery.

Prasetyo also conveyed that President Prabowo Subianto is planned to lead the funeral procession.

“God willing (led by Prabowo). We ask for your prayers,” he said.

The government, according to Prasetyo, has coordinated with RSPAD authorities to ensure the best handling since the late Try Sutrisno was hospitalised until he was pronounced dead.

Try Sutrisno, who served as the sixth Vice President during the administration of second President Soeharto, died while being treated at the Central Hospital of the Indonesian Army Medical Corps (RSPAD), Jakarta, on Monday morning. The deceased passed away at the age of 90.

In his final years before passing away, the late Try Sutrisno remained actively devoted to involvement in national activities, including serving as Deputy Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP) for the 2022–2027 term.

The sixth Vice President was also active in attending state events, such as the Commemoration Ceremony of the Indonesian Independence Proclamation at Merdeka Palace every 17 August, the Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly, and other important events such as the Indonesian Armed Forces’ anniversary ceremony every 5 October.
