Palace Supports DPR Special Committee to Oversee Police-Prosecutor Conflict, Yusril Ready to Speak Frankly
The government has spoken out regarding the polemic involving the National Police and the Attorney General’s Office in handling the alleged corruption case of former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah. Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections (Menko Kumham Imipas) Yusril Ihza Mahendra assessed that the move by House Commission III to form a Supervisory Working Committee (Panja) is an appropriate mechanism to ensure the legal process proceeds accountably. Yusril stressed that the government will scrutinise all legal aspects of the case, which has now been handed over by the Police to the Attorney General’s Office. “We will scrutinise the legal aspects related to the handling of the matter now submitted by the Police to the Attorney General’s Office,” Yusril said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 22 July 2026. According to him, the formation of the Panja by Commission III is part of the DPR’s constitutional function in overseeing the running of the government, including law enforcement institutions. “That the DPR forms a panja to conduct supervision is indeed as it should be,” he stated. “The DPR’s duty is to supervise the government, in this case the Attorney General’s Office and the National Police. And we respond positively to what the DPR has done,” he continued. Yusril also confirmed that the government is ready to provide explanations if requested to attend a meeting with the DPR to discuss the case’s developments. “And if necessary, we are asked for our opinion, we are also ready to come to the DPR to explain this issue,” he asserted. He added that inter-ministerial coordination continues to monitor the case’s progress while formulating the most appropriate resolution steps. “So, between myself and Mr Djamhari, between the Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections and the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, we are working closely together to monitor this case and also provide the best resolution suggestions,” Yusril revealed. Furthermore, Yusril opined that the emerging polemic between the Police and the Attorney General’s Office should not be viewed as a prolonged conflict, but rather as a possible misunderstanding that needs to be promptly clarified. “This is actually perhaps a misunderstanding that needs to be clarified and resolved,” he remarked. He stressed that President Prabowo Subianto’s directive regarding the case handling is already on the right track. According to Yusril, the legal mechanism is now proceeding with the Attorney General’s Office handling the case and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) acting as the supervising body.
