The Indonesian State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, stated that President Prabowo Subianto has not yet decided on a replacement for Silmy Karim as Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, following Silmy’s involvement in an alleged corruption case at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). He noted that the daily responsibilities left by Silmy can still be managed by the Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Agus Andrianto.

Speaking at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Thursday, Prasetyo emphasised that daily operations and services within the Ministry must not be disrupted by the ongoing case. Silmy was named a suspect by the KPK in relation to alleged corruption involving the processing of permits for foreign nationals to reside in Indonesia, alongside seven other suspects. Investigators have charged Silmy and others under Article 12e regarding alleged extortion in immigration document processing, and Article 12B regarding the receipt of other benefits or gratifications.

Regarding cabinet changes, Prasetyo mentioned the possibility of Said Iqbal, leader of the Labour Party, joining the Red and White Cabinet. While he declined to specify which position might be entrusted to Said, he noted that the matter is currently under discussion. He suggested the potential role would likely relate to Said’s long-standing involvement with labour and workforce issues.

Additionally, the State Secretary noted that the inauguration of the new head of the National Nutrition Agency is planned for next week. He also mentioned that the presentation of credentials by ambassadors from friendly nations is also scheduled for next week, noting that while the events are planned for the same period, the inauguration of state officials and the credential ceremonies will be held in separate forums.
