Palace States No Plans to Withdraw TNI Troops from UNIFIL in Lebanon
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi has stated that there are no plans to withdraw TNI troops from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Prasetyo said that, so far, the government continues to coordinate following the incident where three TNI soldiers serving with UNIFIL became victims of an attack in Lebanon.
“If the question is about a decision to withdraw, that hasn’t happened yet. But with the incident that occurred yesterday, the government certainly must carry out coordination,” Prasetyo said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (8/4/2026).
Prasetyo mentioned that various phenomena of concern to Indonesia, as expressed by Foreign Minister (Menlu) Sugiono, will be evaluated.
“Yes, (the peacekeeping deployment) will definitely be evaluated. That’s why what Mr Menlu conveyed is also part of the evaluation process,” he said.
The same applies to all matters of concern to Indonesia that were conveyed by Indonesia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (PBB) some time ago.
“Well, we’ll see the results first,” Prasetyo remarked.
On the other hand, the government has not yet received the UN investigation report regarding the deaths of the three personnel, one of which was caused by an Israeli attack.
“Not yet, we haven’t received the report. We’re focusing on today,” Prasetyo explained.
