Palace Signals Labour Party Boss Said Iqbal to Join Prabowo's Cabinet
State Secretariat Minister Prasetyo Hadi has signalled that Indonesian Trade Union Confederation President Said Iqbal may join the Red and White Cabinet, though he noted the matter is still under discussion. When asked by reporters at the Presidential Palace complex on Thursday, Prasetyo declined to specify the exact position, stating it would likely relate to Said Iqbal’s long-standing struggle for labour and workers’ rights. He was responding to questions about whether the post would be at ministerial level or within the National Labour Welfare Council (DKBN).
During the May Day celebrations in Central Jakarta last year, President Prabowo had mentioned the establishment of the DKBN along with a Task Force for Layoffs (PHK). While the DKBN has yet to be realised, the PHK Task Force was ratified through Presidential Decree Number 10 of 2026, announced on May Day at the National Monument. Prasetyo did not disclose when Said Iqbal would be inaugurated.
The Gerindra Party politician also announced that on Monday, Nanik S. Deyang would be inaugurated as Head of the National Nutrition Agency, alongside two deputies, Agustina Arumsari and Major General Trenggono. He explained the inauguration was scheduled for the following week to allow them to focus first on implementing improvements within the agency.
