Palace Reveals Reason Why Prabowo Will Personally Attend DPR Plenary Session Tomorrow
The State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, has revealed that President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to attend the DPR Plenary Session is intended to unify views and strength in maintaining the nation’s economy. Prasetyo also noted that this serves as a momentum to celebrate National Awakening Day, which falls on 20 May.
20 May is celebrated annually as National Awakening Day, marking the founding of Boedi Oetomo in 1908. “The date 20 May is National Awakening Day, so the President wishes to utilise this momentum to once again unify our views and strength as one nation, especially in performing our duties to safeguard our national economy,” Prasetyo stated via a short message on Tuesday (19/5).
Prabowo will personally deliver the Macroeconomic Framework (KEM) and the Main Points of Fiscal Policy (PPKF) at the DPR plenary session on Wednesday (20/5). The Deputy Speaker of the DPR from the Gerindra Faction, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, noted that Prabowo Subianto will be the first president to personally present these documents. He mentioned that previous presidents were represented by ministers during DPR plenary sessions. “I just checked, and this might be the first time,” Dasco told reporters while inspecting the plenary hall in the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday (19/5).
Regarding constitutional practice, Dasco stated that there are no regulations requiring the President to attend the DPR plenary session in person. He noted that the President could be represented by the relevant minister; however, there is also no prohibition against the President attending personally to deliver a speech.
According to the agenda, the plenary session is scheduled to begin at 09:00 WIB. Prabowo is expected to speak for 45 minutes, during which he will present the macroeconomic framework and the main points of the 2027 State Budget (RAPBN) fiscal policy. In addition to the President’s speech, the plenary session will also deliberate on the National Police Bill (RUU Polri) as an initiative from Commission III of the DPR.
