Palace Reveals Prabowo's Stance on BI Governor Candidate to Replace Perry Warjiyo

Jakarta, VIVA – State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi has said that President Prabowo Subianto has not yet decided on a figure to replace Perry Warjiyo as Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), following the acceptance of his resignation.

Prasetyo explained that President Prabowo only received Perry Warjiyo’s letter of resignation on Sunday, 26 July 2026, so there has been no discussion yet regarding a definitive candidate for BI Governor.

“Not yet. He (President Prabowo) cannot immediately nominate a definitive candidate within one day,” Prasetyo said at the BI building in Jakarta on Monday, 27 July 2026.

“And coincidentally, the Bank Indonesia Law stipulates that a vacancy in the post can automatically be filled by an acting governor,” he said.

Prasetyo said the position of BI Governor will temporarily be filled by BI Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti, in accordance with the mechanism regulated under Law Number 23 of 1999 concerning Bank Indonesia.

This law has been amended several times, most recently through Law Number 4 of 2026 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector.

“Going forward, in accordance with the Bank Indonesia Law, the position of Governor of Bank Indonesia will automatically be assumed by the Senior Deputy Governor, who will subsequently carry out all duties as acting governor,” Prasetyo said.

“In the records, the Senior Deputy Governor in question is Mrs Destry Damayanti,” he said.

He emphasised that the provisions of the BI Law stipulate that if a vacancy occurs in the post of BI Governor, the duties and authorities are immediately assumed by the Senior Deputy Governor as acting governor until a definitive governor is appointed.
