Palace Responds to PSI's Push for Prabowo-Gibran Second Term: Focus on Work First
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has responded to the discourse regarding a second term for President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, which was recently promoted by the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI).
Pras, as he is familiarly known, stated that the government is not yet considering the matter as it is currently concentrating on its work agenda. “We are focusing on working first. We are not thinking about that yet,” Pras said at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Friday (26/6).
He detailed that there are still many tasks the government must complete, including issues related to employment, teachers, and downstream industrialisation. “For example, there are still many employment issues, issues regarding our teachers that need to be organised, and issues of downstreaming that we must resolve,” he said.
Previously, PSI Chairman Ahmad Ali expressed his belief that Prabowo would run again with Gibran as his running mate in the 2029 Presidential Election. Ali stated he could not imagine Prabowo choosing a different vice-presidential candidate. “The option we support is the Prabowo-Gibran pair. I am also not convinced that Mr Prabowo would not take Mas Gibran again,” Ali said in a podcast on 19 June.
Ali further argued that Gibran, who is the eldest son of 7th President Joko Widodo and the older brother of PSI Chairman Kaesang Pangarep, is the most prominent candidate among other potential vice-presidential contenders.
