Palace Issues Circular Instructing Officials Not to Hold Lavish Open House Celebrations
The State Secretary’s Office, headed by Minister Prasetyo Hadi, has issued a circular to all ministries and government agencies instructing them not to hold lavish open house celebrations.
“We have already issued a circular to all ministries and agencies urging them not to be excessive in holding open house events or halal bi halal gatherings,” Prasetyo said at the Defence Ministry office in Jakarta on Tuesday (17 March).
Prasetyo reminded officials that Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah is being celebrated whilst some citizens are still affected by natural disasters.
“Therefore, we are urging everyone not to be too extravagant when holding open house or halal bi halal events,” he said.
A similar appeal has previously been made directly by President Prabowo Subianto, who instructed his officials not to hold lavish open house celebrations.
Prabowo emphasised that the entire government must set a good example for the Indonesian people.
“We must also set an example – open houses and other events should not be too extravagant,” Prabowo said.
He noted that many residents in Sumatra are still dealing with disaster situations.
“However, we should not completely shut down all events, as this would also harm our economy,” he added.
Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah is approaching shortly. Muhammadiyah previously determined that Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah will fall on Friday, 20 March 2026.
Meanwhile, the government will confirm the date of 1 Shawwal at an isbat session (Islamic court ruling) scheduled for 19 March.
