Palace: General Try Sutrisno was the Nation's Best Son
The Government of the Republic of Indonesia has expressed deep condolences over the death of General (Retired) Try Sutrisno, the 6th Vice President of the Republic, on Monday, 2 March.
State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that Try Sutrisno was one of the nation’s finest sons. “Certainly we feel profound grief; he was one of Indonesia’s finest sons who dedicated himself, devoting his entire life to the nation and state,” said State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi in a brief statement.
He also called on all Indonesian citizens, particularly young people, to emulate the late figure’s full dedication to the nation.
Prasetyo also prayed that the family left behind would be granted patience and fortitude.
Additionally, he coordinated with various parties to provide the best possible attention to Try Sutrisno’s death. “We as the government, representing the government since this morning, have coordinated with RSPAD, the Garrison, and our State Secretariat to provide the best attention we can give to the late General Try Sutrisno,” he said.
Try Sutrisno took his last breath at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto Hospital in Jakarta on Monday, 2 March at 06.58 WIB this morning.
The news was confirmed by former RSPAD Gatot Soebroto Chief Albertus Budi Sulistya.
Try Sutrisno was born on 15 November 1935. He was a retired general who once held the highest command position as Commander-in-Chief of the ABRI (now the TNI).
During the 1993–1998 period, the late general served as Vice President of the Republic, appointed by the MPR to accompany President Soeharto as his running mate.
