Palace Expresses Concern Over Recent Corruption Cases Involving Officials
The government has expressed profound concern regarding a string of legal cases involving state officials over the past two days. Following the Attorney General’s Office’s detention of the former Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) and two former deputies, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has now detained the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Silmy Karim. State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the government views these events as highly undesirable amidst ongoing efforts to strengthen clean governance.
“Indeed, over the last two days, we have been very concerned, as these recurring incidents are clearly not what we hoped for,” Prasetyostated to reporters via a written statement on Thursday (4/6).
According to Prasetyo, President Prabowo Subianto has consistently reminded all government ranks to reform themselves and avoid corrupt practices in the execution of state duties. He emphasised that the President conveys this message repeatedly as part of the government’s commitment to strengthening the integrity of state apparatus.
Amidst the ongoing legal processes, the government is leaving the handling of these cases entirely to law enforcement agencies. The Palace, according to Prasetyo, respects the steps taken by both the Attorney General’s Office and the KPK.
Regarding the official status of the officials currently undergoing legal proceedings, the government will take immediate steps in accordance with applicable regulations. Any actions regarding the positions held by those involved will be followed up based on existing laws.
Furthermore, the Palace ensured that the case involving Silmy Karim would not disrupt public services within the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services. The government has coordinated with the Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services to maintain the continuity of services to the public.
The KPK officially detained Deputy Minister Silmy Karim after he surrendered on Wednesday (3/6) night. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that Silmy’s alleged involvement relates to his position while leading the Directorate General of Immigration. The KPK has revealed that, to date, 17 individuals have been caught in recent sting operations.
