Palace Denies Rumours of Finance Minister Replacement: We Do Not Act Based on Issues
State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has asserted that there are no plans to replace Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. Prasetyo emphasised that the steps taken by the government are not based on developing issues or widespread public speculation.
“It is difficult because what develops in society cannot be prevented or restrained. However, what is certain is that we do not work based on or because of such issues,” said Prasetyo after meeting with leaders of the House of Representatives (DPR) at the DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (8/6/2026). Prasetyo was responding to rumours that Chatib Basri might have the opportunity to replace Purbaya in the Red and White Cabinet.
Pras reaffirmed that there is no plan to change the Finance Minister, noting that he has clarified this point multiple times.
“There is no plan to replace the Finance Minister. We have stated many times that there is no plan for a reshuffle,” said Pras.
He requested that rumours of a cabinet reshuffle not be linked to specific public figures. Pras emphasised that the government will announce directly if there are any changes to cabinet positions.
“Therefore, I must apologise once again; please do not link this to circulating issues or the names of various figures. Because in reality, there is no plan for a replacement at this time,” said Pras.
“If we feel—and this applies not just to one ministry, but if the President feels there is a need for refreshment or change—it will be communicated to the public when the time comes,” he added.
