Jakarta – Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi has dismissed reports that the government has sent a presidential decree (surpres) regarding the replacement of the Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri). Prasetyo explained that the news of the government sending a decree for the Kapolri’s replacement was merely a rumour. “Who said there is a presidential decree for the Kapolri?” Prasetyo told reporters at the Coordinating Ministry for Food office in Central Jakarta on Thursday, 6 August 2026. Prasetyo stated that the government has not drafted a decree to replace Listyo Sigit Prabowo as Kapolri. “There is none, there is none, there is no presidential decree for the Kapolri,” he asserted.

Previously, Chairman of House of Representatives Commission III Habiburokhman denied that his side had received a presidential decree regarding the replacement of the Kapolri. “It is not true that there is a presidential letter regarding the replacement of the Kapolri,” Habiburokhman told reporters on Tuesday, 4 August 2026. He also urged the public not to believe information that lacks a clear basis. “We urge the public not to be influenced by untrue and baseless issues,” Habiburokhman explained.

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Ahmad Sahroni also stated that no presidential decree regarding the Kapolri’s replacement had been sent to Commission III. “There isn’t one. If you already know, just reveal it. We don’t have it, there is absolutely nothing yet,” Sahroni said at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, 4 August 2026. The NasDem Party politician explained that Listyo Sigit Prabowo’s performance as Kapolri has been good so far. He suggested that the issue was being stirred up by parties who are unhappy that Listyo remains in office. “But the issue about the Kapolri being replaced is being heavily circulated. It’s understandable, he has been in the position for five years,” said Sahroni. “Because it’s been a long time, some people don’t like it. Just accept it,” he added.
