Palace: BI Governor Perry Had Not Met Prabowo Before Resigning

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The State Palace has confirmed that there was no meeting between Perry Warjiyo and President Prabowo Subianto prior to Warjiyo’s resignation as Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) on Saturday (27/7/2026).

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that Warjiyo submitted his resignation solely through a letter to the head of state. “The process was that he sent a letter and there was no time for a meeting,” Prasetyo said after a press conference regarding the resignation at the BI Head Office on Monday (27/7/2026).

Prasetyo revealed that in the letter addressed to Prabowo, Warjiyo stated his resignation was due to personal reasons, not because of illness or pressure. “The letter simply conveyed a request for resignation due to personal reasons,” Prasetyo stated.

Regarding Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti, who has been appointed by the board of governors as the acting Governor of BI, Prasetyo noted that a meeting with the President is being arranged for today. “As for the acting Governor of BI who is carrying out the duties, we plan to find time, possibly today, to meet and have a discussion with the President,” he stressed.

Destry was appointed as acting Governor of BI by the board of governors on 26 July 2026, in accordance with Article 48 paragraph (1) letter (a) of Law No. 23 of 1999 concerning Bank Indonesia, as amended several times, most recently by Law No. 4 of 2026 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector.
