Palace asserts no intervention in ex-Jampidsus corruption case

The Presidential Palace has stated it will not intervene in the legal process concerning the alleged corruption case involving former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah. “We leave this matter entirely to the process handled by law enforcement officials,” said Presidential Special Adviser for Communication and Media, Hasan Nasbi, to reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Monday. He stressed that the government respects the independence of the law enforcement agencies handling the case. According to him, the government is not interfering at all in the legal domain involving the former official of the Adhyaksa Corps. Previously, the Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor) had named former Jampidsus Febrie Adriansyah as a suspect in three clusters of corruption cases. The cases involve alleged corruption and money laundering in the handling of the PT Asabri, Krakatau Steel, and PLN coal procurement cases. Although the case files and evidence have now been transferred to the Attorney General’s Office for follow-up, the prosecution has not yet detained Febrie on the grounds that the investigation is still ongoing. Prasetyo, who also serves as Presidential Spokesperson, said that all legal processes concerning Febrie must be left to the applicable mechanisms. Prasetyo also dismissed the notion that the examination of Febrie required the President’s permission. “I think it goes back to the mechanism. I don’t think there is any such requirement, that during the examination process it must have the President’s permission,” said Prasetyo.
