Palace asserts no intervention in ex-Jampidsus corruption case

Because the government, in this case, is not intervening in law enforcement matters. Let that remain the authority of investigators and law enforcement officials.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Presidential Palace will not interfere in the law enforcement process concerning the alleged corruption case implicating former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah.

“On that matter, we simply leave it to the process being handled by the legal authorities,” said Presidential Special Advisor for Communication and Media Hasan Nasbi to journalists at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Monday.

He affirmed that the government respects the independence of the law enforcement institutions handling the case. According to him, the government has not meddled at all in the legal domain involving the former official of the Adhyaksa Corps.

Previously, the National Police’s Corruption and Criminal Breach of Trust Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor) named former Jampidsus Febrie Adriansyah as a suspect in three clusters of corruption cases. The cases encompass alleged corruption and money laundering in the handling of the PT Asabri, Krakatau Steel, and PLN coal procurement matters.

Although the case files and evidence have now been handed over to the Attorney General’s Office for follow-up, the prosecution has not detained Febrie on the grounds that the investigation is still ongoing.

Prasetyo, who also serves as Presidential Spokesperson, said the entire legal process against Febrie must be left to the applicable mechanisms.

Prasetyo also denied the assumption that questioning Febrie requires the President’s permission. “I think it goes back to the mechanism, doesn’t it. I don’t think that’s the case either; it’s just that while the examination process is still under way, it must be with the President’s consent,” said Prasetyo.
