Palace Apologises for Extreme Traffic at Gilimanuk Crossing

The Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi has apologised for extreme congestion resulting from high traffic volumes at the Ketapang-Gilimanuk ferry crossing. Field personnel are currently working to find solutions to resolve the congestion.

“Field officers are working hard to find solutions to reduce congestion and queues,” he said at the Defence Ministry headquarters in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.

He claimed the government is working hard to anticipate and ensure that Eid homecoming activities proceed safely and smoothly. The government is also striving to ensure that the flow of homecoming traffic proceeds well amid increasing public mobility.

Based on data from the Gilimanuk Command Post over 24 hours on 13 March 2026 from 00.00–23.59 WIB (H-8), the number of ferry trips reached 220.

The realisation of passengers from Bali to Java reached 37,877 people, with vehicles consisting of 6,066 motorcycles, 3,573 small vehicles, 2,154 trucks, and 383 buses, bringing the total vehicle count to 12,176 units. Cumulatively from H-10 to H-8, total passengers recorded 97,572 people with 31,045 vehicles.

Meanwhile, based on data from the Ketapang Command Post during the same period, the number of ferry trips recorded 231 trips. Passengers from Java to Bali reached 26,173 people, or up 6.2 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Trucks recorded 2,604 units, or up 10.8 per cent, whilst buses reached 635 units, or up 7.4 per cent. The total number of vehicles crossing from Java to Bali reached 5,365 units, or up 2.5 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Cumulatively from H-10 to H-8, total passengers from Java to Bali recorded 66,305 people with a total of 15,410 vehicles.
