PAL to resume Jakarta flights
MANILA (Dow Jones): Philippine Airlines Inc said Monday it
will resume Dec. 2 flights from Manila to Jakarta that were
suspended two and a half years ago.
PAL said the service will operate four times a week via
Singapore. "PAL will have full traffic rights between Singapore
and Jakarta - a sector it will be serving for the first time,"
the carrier said in a communique.
The run will deploy Airbus 330-300 aircraft.
Philippine Airlines' return to Jakarta expands its international
route network to 16 points in nine countries.
Reeling from the impact of Asia's 1997 financial crisis and a
pilots strike, the debt-laden carrier was forced to suspend many
international flights.
So far this year, Philippine Airlines has added flights to
Sydney, Taipei and Pusan in South Korea.
