PAL resumes flights after strike

MANILA (DPA): Philippine Airlines (PAL) resumed regular flights on domestic and international routes yesterday, the day after striking ground workers agreed to end their three-day walkout.

The strike ended after PAL management agreed in writing to ensure the ground workers' job security, which had been their primary concern. On Friday, pilots and flight attendants had threatened to join their fellow employees on the picket line.

PAL said it would not contract out jobs performed by regular workers and promised to consult its employees before launching any re-organization within the company. The airline also said it would not impose sanctions on workers who joined the strike.

During the strike, which began last Wednesday, PAL had to cancel dozens of domestic flights and several international flights.
