PAL-Garuda joint flights
MANILA (Dow Jones): Philippines Airlines Inc. (PAL) said yesterday it has started joint services with two regional carriers, PT Garuda Indonesian Airways and Vietnam Airlines.
PAL said it had started code-sharing arrangements with Garuda on Manila-Jakarta flights, and with Vietnam Airlines for flights between Manila and Ho Chi Minh City.
Code-sharing is an arrangement whereby an airline can sell tickets under its own name for flights operated by another carrier.
Philippines Airlines said the destinations will be marketed and sold in each country as joint flights, but will actually be operated using Philippines Airlines aircraft and crew.
Garuda and Vietnam Airlines had suspended their Manila runs because of the regional crisis and the resulting slump in the air travel market.
