PAL, Emirates Air tie up
MANILA (Dow Jones): Philippine Airlines Inc. (PAL) said
Wednesday it has signed a code-sharing agreement with Emirates
Airline that will see PAL re-establish a presence in Dubai for
the first time in 15 months.
Under the agreement, which will be effective Sept. 1, PAL will
get a seating allocation for each of Emirates' three flights per
week between Manila and Dubai.
The agreement with Emirates is PAL's first code-sharing
agreement since the implementation of the debt-laden airlines'
rehabilitation plan in June.
"The forging of such agreements, which will enable PAL to
effectively expand its route network at minimal cost, is a key
element of the rehabilitation process," the Philippine carrier
said in a statement.
PAL was forced to suspend flights to Dubai in June 1998 due to
the impact of Asia's financial crisis.
