Pakistan's Ambassador Emphasises Diplomacy to Resolve Iran-US-Israel Crisis
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Pakistan’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, emphasised that Pakistan believes negotiation and diplomatic solutions are the best ways to handle international crises, particularly the crisis between Iran and the US-Israel alliance.
“We believe the current crisis can only be resolved through negotiation and diplomatic efforts,” said Ambassador Chaudhri during a visit to the ANTARA Heritage Center in Jakarta on Thursday, in response to questions about Pakistan’s initiative to host mediation between Iran and the US-Israel alliance.
He stated that Pakistan strongly hopes a negotiated diplomatic solution can be found to address the war between Iran and the US-Israel alliance.
According to him, Pakistan has been striving to play that role in finding a negotiated diplomatic solution, stating that Pakistan would be pleased to host mediation dialogues in Islamabad.
“We would be very pleased to host such a dialogue in Islamabad where we can all sit together and find a solution to the conflict,” he said.
When asked about Iran’s lingering distrust of the US due to being attacked twice while negotiations were underway, Ambassador Chaudhri emphasised that negotiation and diplomatic solutions are the best ways to handle the crisis.
He said that Pakistan is working with all friendly countries in the region and remains confident that a diplomatic solution is still possible.
Previously, on Tuesday (24/3), Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Islamabad is “ready” to host “meaningful and conclusive” talks between the US and Iran to achieve a “comprehensive resolution” to end the war in the Middle East.
“Pakistan welcomes and fully supports dialogue efforts to end the war in the Middle East for peace and stability in the region and beyond,” Sharif said on his X social media account.
The statement came amid reports that Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir had communicated with US President Donald Trump on Sunday (23/3) regarding the Iran war.
The South Asian country has offered itself as a venue for high-level meetings between senior officials of the Trump administration and the Iranian side as part of diplomatic efforts.
Shortly after the post, President Trump shared a screenshot of the Pakistani prime minister’s statement on his Truth Social platform.
The situation in the region remains tense following continued US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran since 28 February. The strikes are reported to have killed more than a thousand people, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Tehran retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. This escalation has disrupted infrastructure, global markets, and international aviation.
