Pakistan Welcomes US-Iran Islamabad MoU, Praises Peace Diplomacy

Islamabad (ANTARA) - Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday (18/6) welcomed the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran, describing the achievement as a historic milestone for regional and global peace. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the MoU between the US and Iran had been signed electronically by the leaders of both countries and came into immediate effect. In a statement issued by the Presidential Palace, Zardari said the conflict had caused immense suffering to people across the region and severely disrupted global energy supplies, trade, and economic stability. He expressed hope that such a tragedy would not be repeated and that countries in the region would now focus their efforts on development, prosperity, and improving the welfare of their people. Zardari stated that Pakistan maintained a principled, balanced, and constructive approach during the crisis by consistently advocating for dialogue, restraint, and peaceful dispute resolution while engaging with all parties involved. He also appreciated the efforts of both US and Iranian leaders in pursuing a diplomatic solution to resolve the conflict. The President further acknowledged the support from China, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Egypt, and Russia, stating that their efforts to promote dialogue contributed to the progress of peace. Calling for the full implementation of the Islamabad MoU, Zardari urged all parties to work towards a final agreement within the stipulated timeframe to ensure sustainable peace and stability. “Heroes are those who have ended wars, not those who wish to start them,” Zardari said. “War only brings destruction and suffering. Peace is the only path to progress,” he added, affirming that Pakistan will maintain solidarity with regional countries in promoting peace, stability, and shared prosperity.
