Pakistan Reveals 'Spoiler' in US-Iran Peace Deal, Labels Israel a 'Criminal'

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, has revealed a highly significant development regarding the geopolitical escalation in the Middle East. Pakistan has confirmed it successfully mediated talks between the United States and Iran, resulting in a formally signed peace Memorandum of Understanding. This move is projected to ease global tensions and provide positive sentiment to world energy markets. The mediation effort followed a long, secret, and complex diplomatic process amid high levels of mistrust between the two parties. The success of the agreement is considered historic, given that Washington and Tehran have had no direct diplomatic communication for several decades. In the important document, Pakistan also affixed its signature as a witness and official mediator. “We see it as a very positive and encouraging step. We are talking about two countries that previously had absolute mistrust and did not communicate directly for a long time. Now, we have a clear MoU which both countries have agreed to and signed,” Ambassador Zahid said during a Meet the Press over Hi-Tea event in Jakarta on Friday. Before reaching this agreement, Pakistan first focused on securing temporary ceasefires in conflict zones. This effort proved effective in reducing tactical tensions, smoothing the path to bring the two major powers to the negotiating table. Pakistan and Qatar acted together to facilitate this intensive communication. Islamabad also stressed that it did not act alone, but rather embraced all major powers in the Middle East region to align perceptions. This multilateral approach involved close coordination with key countries such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, and Oman to ensure long-term stability. Energy security and the smooth flow of global logistics are the main stakes in the success of this process. “I am pleased to report that these talks are making good progress, and we hope that a permanent ceasefire and a permanent solution to the conflict in the region will also be achieved,” Ambassador Zahid stated optimistically. Despite this, Pakistan warned that the path to peace will certainly not be easy due to the presence of regional spoilers. Islamabad highlighted Israel’s military aggression into Lebanon as the main current obstacle that could unilaterally undermine this peace commitment. The escalation issue raises new concerns due to Lebanon’s close position with Iran’s defence axis. Israel’s actions in Lebanon are deemed potentially capable of reigniting open conflict and destroying the entire ongoing mediation process. As a result of these military actions, Israel is now considered increasingly isolated from the international community and losing support from its allied nations. The international community views these unilateral actions as a serious violation of global humanitarian law. “Israel is the spoiler in the region, the main obstacle on the road to peace. Today they are isolated and losing friends in the world because of war crimes and human rights violations that are so visible,” Ambassador Zahid stated, sharply criticising Tel Aviv. Pakistan urged the UN Security Council and influential countries to take immediate concrete action to stop Israel’s aggression. If the war in Lebanon continues to expand, the impact will directly hit the global economy through soaring commodity prices and a new energy crisis. Therefore, compliance with international law is the only logical solution at present. According to Pakistan, the escalation in Lebanon proves that peace in the Middle East will never be achieved as long as international law is ignored by one party. Pakistan is committed to continuing to shepherd this US-Iran MoU so that it is not shaken by military provocations on the ground. Strengthening regional coordination will continue to be enhanced to stem the destructive impact of the Lebanon conflict. “No country should be allowed to unilaterally destroy regional peace. We will continue to work with both the US and Iran to ensure that this memorandum of understanding is implemented in both text and spirit for the sake of regional peace,” Ambassador Zahid concluded.
