Beijing (ANTARA) - Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated his country’s readiness to coordinate with China in mediating US-Iran peace talks.

Sharif made the remarks during his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Monday (25/5) afternoon, according to a statement from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing on Tuesday.

“Pakistan appreciates China’s support for its mediation efforts in US-Iran talks and is prepared to closely coordinate with China to jointly contribute to global peace and stability,” the statement said.

Pakistan previously hosted US-Iran peace talks in Islamabad on 11-12 April 2026, though no agreement was reached.

Sharif also expressed appreciation for China’s proposals on resolving Middle East conflicts.

“President Xi’s four propositions regarding the Middle East situation provide a guiding framework for achieving peace in the region,” Sharif said.

Meanwhile, Xi stated that China and Pakistan have built a relationship over the past 75 years based on mutual understanding, trust, and support.

“Regardless of how the international landscape changes, China will always prioritise the development of China-Pakistan relations in its diplomacy with neighbouring countries,” Xi said.

He also affirmed China’s support for Pakistan in safeguarding its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

According to Xi, China appreciates Pakistan’s role as a mediator in restoring peace in the Middle East.

He said both countries would continue to strengthen communication and coordination to oppose unilateralism and Cold War mentality.

Xi also noted that China and Pakistan need to accelerate the building of a closer community with a shared future.

Meanwhile, Sharif described Xi as a close friend of the Pakistani people and a supporter of global peace.

“The strong friendship between Pakistan and China, forged by previous generations of leaders, has become unbreakable and unmatched,” Sharif said.

He also affirmed Pakistan’s adherence to the “One China” principle and support for Beijing on core issues.
