KARACHI, Pakistan (Reuters): Pakistani imports of palm oil are
likely to rise amid high demand ahead of the Moslem fasting month
of Ramadhan falling in January and low prices abroad, dealers
said on Saturday.
"Low prices and high stocks position in Malaysia would
encourage Pakistani mills and importers to import as much as they
can ahead of Ramadhan when consumption rises by at least one and
a half times," dealer Ziaul Haq of Saulat Enterprise said.
He said domestic prices were steady but cottonseed oil prices
were on the rise on low supply. Low cottonseed oil supply should
further encourage imports.
But he said high soybean oil prices in the international
markets will keep its imports low.
