Pakistan holds productive dialogue with Iran over conflict with US

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said he and Pakistan Army Chief of Staff Asim Munir held productive negotiations with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian regarding the resolution of the conflict between Tehran and Washington.

“Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and I held a very positive and productive meeting with the President of Iran,” Naqvi wrote on X on Tuesday.

“Our discussions focused on the Iran-US conflict, tensions in the Middle East and the way forward, as well as the necessary steps for both parties to revive the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which will ultimately lead to a comprehensive resolution of the conflict,” he added.

Naqvi said the Iranian President conveyed his government’s concerns during the meeting.

According to Naqvi, Pakistan hopes that the significant progress achieved in the talks can pave the way for further advancement and lasting peace in the region.

On 28 February, the United States and Israel struck a number of targets in Iran. Iran subsequently retaliated against the military aggression by attacking several targets linked to American and Israeli interests in the Middle East region.

In mid-June, Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at halting hostilities. However, shortly afterwards, both sides resumed attacking each other.

The conflict remains unresolved to this day, although no active hostilities are currently taking place.

However, the US has chosen to increase economic pressure on Iran in order to end the conflict through the imposition of financial pressure on Tehran.
