Pakistan Day celebration

JAKARTA (JP): A flag-hoisting ceremony will be held at the Embassy of Pakistan at 9 a.m. on Tuesday to celebrate Pakistan Day.

The embassy said in a statement made available to The Jakarta Post on Friday that Pakistan Ambassador Afzal Akbar Khan would hoist their national flag while their national anthem was played.

Every year a large number of Pakistanis and Indonesians of Pakistani origin attend the ceremony, the statement said.

National dress is usually worn, with children attired in beautiful multicolor dresses from the different provinces.

March 23 is observed to commemorate a resolution for a separate homeland, which the Muslims of the sub-Continent passed at a mammoth public meeting held in Lahore on this day in 1940.
