Pakistan Claims Significant Progress in Mediating US-Iran Conflict

The Government of Pakistan has stated that significant progress has been made in mediation efforts between the United States and Iran. The statement came after Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, made a strategic visit to Tehran to encourage the resumption of direct negotiations between the two feuding countries.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, who accompanied Munir on the visit, revealed that the meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was very positive and productive. “Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and I held a very positive and productive meeting with the President of Iran,” Naqvi said in a post on platform X on Tuesday (25/8/2026).

Although he did not detail the technical specifics of the progress referred to, Naqvi stressed that the meeting ended on a very optimistic note. He expressed hope that this momentum could pave the way for lasting peace in the Middle East region.

During the talks, both parties discussed in depth the Iran-US conflict, regional tensions, and strategic steps going forward. One of the crucial points discussed was the action needed to restore the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU is projected to become the main foundation towards a comprehensive resolution of the conflict. According to Naqvi, President Pezeshkian openly conveyed the Iranian government’s perspective and concerns, which were then met with a constructive exchange of views by the Pakistani delegation.

During the one-day visit to Tehran, Field Marshal Asim Munir also held a series of meetings with key Iranian figures. According to an official statement from the Pakistani military, the comprehensive talks focused on efforts to prevent further escalation in the Middle East. Crucial issues such as the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and accelerating the end of the conflict were the main agenda items in the dialogue.

“Both sides exchanged views on regional peace and ways to achieve dispute resolution through negotiation,” the Pakistani military statement said.

On the other hand, the Iranian Government expressed high appreciation for the constructive role played by Pakistan. Tehran praised Islamabad’s sincere efforts in facilitating dialogue and de-escalation for the sake of creating stability in the region through peaceful means.
