REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEHRAN – The Chief of the Pakistan Army, Field Marshal Asim Munir, arrived in Tehran on Wednesday (15/4/2026), leading a high-level political-security delegation. His visit is to deliver a message from the United States (US) and to open the way for the next round of Iran-US talks.

The delegation led by Marshal Munir includes representatives from the Foreign Ministry, security institutions, and technical experts. The delegation is scheduled to meet with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi. The arrival of Pakistan’s highest military official reaffirms Islamabad’s increasingly significant role as the primary mediator between Tehran and Washington.

Previously, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baqaei, had confirmed that Tehran would host the Pakistani delegation. He emphasised that indirect message exchanges between Iran and the United States are still ongoing.

This diplomatic effort comes amid a two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States mediated by Pakistan, which remains in effect.

The delegation led by Munir is expected to discuss the framework for a possible second round of talks between Tehran and Washington.

The first round of talks in Islamabad failed to produce an agreement at the end of last weekend.

The ceasefire came into effect after 40 days of fighting that began on 28 February, when the United States and Israel launched an unprovoked war of aggression against Iran.
