Pakistan Announces US-Iran Technical Talks in Switzerland on Sunday
Islamabad - Technical-level negotiations between the United States and Iran will be held on Sunday in Burgenstock, Switzerland, within the framework of the ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding’, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday. According to a ministry statement, the discussions are a follow-up to the signing of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding. Representatives from the United States and Iran will participate in the negotiations, along with mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, the statement added. Pakistan stated it will continue to facilitate the process as a mediator to support progress in implementing the memorandum. Previously, United States Vice President JD Vance said that high-level negotiations with Iran could take place as early as Sunday. ‘We will schedule talks when the key officials from the Iranian government, as well as the governments of Qatar and Pakistan, arrive,’ Vance told Fox News, adding that it could happen ‘as soon as tomorrow.’ Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that an Iranian delegation will travel to Switzerland to follow up and demand the fulfilment of commitments from the other party.
