Pakistan announces US-Iran peace deal to be signed
Islamabad (ANTARA) - Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced early Monday that the United States and Iran have reached a peace agreement after intensive negotiations, with the official signing ceremony scheduled for 19 June in Switzerland. In a statement posted on platform X, Sharif said both parties have agreed to an “immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.” The prime minister said mediators will facilitate a series of meetings this week aimed at preparing for the implementation of the agreement. According to Sharif, these pre-implementation discussions will lay the groundwork for technical talks and the formal signing ceremony. The Pakistani prime minister expressed gratitude to the US and Iran for their commitment to resolving the conflict through diplomatic channels, and acknowledged the role played by regional partners in the mediation process. US President Donald Trump, moments later, also stated that the US-Iran deal “is now finalised” and that he has authorised the immediate lifting of the US Navy’s maritime blockade on Iranian ports.
