Pakistan Ambassador: Indonesia Has Important Role in Pushing Kashmir Resolution

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, has said that Indonesia has an important role to play, alongside the international community, in pushing for the implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions on Kashmir.

“As a large country, and also the largest Muslim country, it is very important for Indonesia, like other members of the international community, to play a role in the implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions,” Ambassador Chaudhri said at a Kashmir Day event held at the Pakistani Embassy in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He said the implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions is important for realising a rules-based international order.

According to him, there are 18 UN Security Council resolutions calling for the holding of an independent and impartial plebiscite to give the people of Jammu and Kashmir the opportunity to determine their own fate.

“It is important for Indonesia, together with members of the international community, to ask India to respect the human rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and grant them their fundamental right to self-determination,” he said.

He again called on the international community to urge India to honour its commitments to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and to implement the UN Security Council resolutions.

According to him, the implementation of these resolutions is necessary to immediately halt human rights violations against the people of Jammu and Kashmir and to release the region’s leaders who remain imprisoned.

The conflict between Pakistan and India over control of the Jammu and Kashmir region has been ongoing since 1947. However, tensions rose again in late April 2025.
