Pakistan Ambassador: Indonesia Has Important Role in Pushing Kashmir Resolution

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, believes that Indonesia has an important role alongside the international community in pushing for the implementation of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions concerning Kashmir. “As a large country, and also the largest Muslim country, it is very important for Indonesia, like other members of the international community, to play a role in the implementation of the UNSC resolutions,” Ambassador Chaudhri said at a Kashmir Day event held at the Pakistani Embassy in Jakarta on Wednesday. He stated that implementing the UNSC resolutions is crucial for realising a rules-based international order. According to him, there are 18 UNSC resolutions calling for the holding of an independent and impartial plebiscite to give the people of Jammu and Kashmir the opportunity to determine their own fate. “It is important for Indonesia, together with members of the international community, to ask India to respect the human rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and grant their fundamental right to self-determination,” he said. He reiterated his call for the international community to urge India to honour its commitments to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and to implement the UN Security Council resolutions. He argued that implementing these resolutions is necessary to immediately halt human rights violations against the people of Jammu and Kashmir and to release the region’s leaders who remain imprisoned. The conflict between Pakistan and India over control of the Jammu and Kashmir region has been ongoing since 1947. However, tensions escalated in late April 2025.
