Pair in Serang, Banten Team Up to Steal Motorcycles, Target Wedding Celebrations

Serang, VIVA – The Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the Serang Police Resort (Polres Serang), Banten, has arrested a gang of motor vehicle thieves who specialised in entertainment at wedding celebrations, carried out by a couple. Police Chief Andri Kurniawan in Serang on Friday said the two main perpetrators captured are JM alias KM (41), a resident of Malingping District, Lebak Regency, and his girlfriend DA (28), a resident of Tenjo District, Bogor Regency. ‘The two were arrested as they were about to act at a solo organ entertainment at a wedding in Nyapah Village, Walantaka Subdistrict, Serang City, on Wednesday (20/5),’ Andri said. He explained that the case began from a report of the loss of a Honda Scoopy motorcycle owned by Riwan (37) of Serang Regency while watching solo organ entertainment on Tuesday night, 12 May 2026. Based on that report, personnel from the General Crimes Unit Satreskrim Serang conducted investigations until they found a suspected transaction of selling the stolen motorcycle in Jasinga, Bogor Regency. Officers then arrested two receivers with initials SA (40) and SU (31). From questioning, police confirmed the motorcycle belonged to the victim and was obtained from KM. The General Crimes Unit, led by Ipda Athallah Thoriq, then traced KM’s whereabouts and arrested him together with DA. ‘Based on the results of the investigation, the couple confessed to having stolen motor vehicles at 15 incident locations in the Banten Province,’ Andri said. He added that the perpetrators specifically targeted wedding venues and solo organ entertainment because the busy atmosphere facilitated theft. In the case, police seized four units of Honda motorcycles, four mobile phones, and a T-shaped key used by the perpetrators when acting. Currently, the four suspects along with the evidence are detained at the Serang Police Headquarters for investigation and further development of the case. (Ant)
