'Padel Village' Emerges in Tangerang as Residents Welcome New Job Opportunities
An area in Pagedangan, Tangerang Regency, Banten, is now packed with padel courts, earning it the nickname ‘padel village’. Residents say they are not bothered by the padel activity, as it has brought life to the area and created job opportunities.
“No, I don’t feel disturbed at all,” said Taufik, a resident of RT 03 RW 02, Pagerhaur, when met at his home on Tuesday (24/2/2026).
Taufik said the padel court next to his house was only built around 2024. Previously, the land had been gardens and scrubland.
“It was just gardens — rambutan trees, jackfruit trees, that sort of thing. Then they built these padel courts,” he said, pointing to the court right beside his home.
The padel court near Taufik’s house has also seen adjacent land cleared to serve as a car park.
According to Taufik, Pagerhaur Village is now bustling every day, whereas it used to be quiet before the padel courts mushroomed.
“Before, the atmosphere was silent, deserted — even haunted, you could say. But now, thankfully, it’s become much livelier and the residents are happy about it,” he explained.
Taufik added that the padel courts near his home have had a positive impact. He said several of his previously unemployed neighbours now have jobs at the padel venues.
“People who were unemployed now have work. Thankfully, there are job opportunities here now. Before, many were out of work,” he said.
He went on to say that jobs secured by local residents include cleaning, parking attendant, and garden maintenance roles. In his view, the padel courts have been a blessing for the community.
Another Pagerhaur resident, Nikmah, also said she had no objections to the padel courts. She noted that they have made the area much livelier.
“For residents, it used to be quiet. Now that the padel courts are here, it’s bustling. It was all just gardens before,” Nikmah said.
